How Can Your Restaurant Take Orders on WhatsApp?
Your restaurant can take WhatsApp orders through the official Meta WhatsApp Business Cloud API connected to a POS like Restozay. Customers message your number as usual, staff reply from one shared chat dashboard, and confirmed orders land on the POS beside dine-in, takeaway and delivery, with receipts, status updates and rider tracking links sent automatically.
Restozay includes WhatsApp ordering from PKR 10,000/month, with no commission and no per-order fee; Meta bills its own per-conversation charges separately. The PKR 20,000/month Premium plan adds AI WhatsApp ordering and AI call answering. Setup, menu import and training are free, and most restaurants are live the same day.
WhatsApp ordering in 60 seconds
Many customers in Pakistan would rather message a restaurant than call it — the question is whether those chats become clean orders or a pile of screenshots, voice notes and missed messages on one counter phone. A WhatsApp ordering system connects your restaurant's WhatsApp number to your POS, so the chat, the order, the receipt and the delivery update all live in one place.
With Restozay it works like this:
- Customers message your WhatsApp number as usual — nothing to install.
- Staff see conversations in one chat dashboard instead of passing a phone around.
- You share your smart digital menu link in the chat, so customers browse live items, variations, flavours and add-ons — the same menu behind your QR table ordering.
- Confirmed orders appear on the same POS screen as dine-in, takeaway and delivery.
- Receipts, status updates and a live rider tracking link go back to the customer automatically.
WhatsApp ordering is included from the PKR 10,000/month Basic plan, with no commission and no per-order fee. Meta's own per-conversation charges for the WhatsApp Business API are a separate bill — more on that below.
Do you need the official WhatsApp Business API or a normal number?
A normal WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app number is fine for a stall taking a handful of orders a day. As volume grows, the limits show up: the free app is built around one phone plus a small number of linked devices, nothing can be sent automatically from your POS, and numbers used for bulk messaging can be restricted under WhatsApp's own policies — worth reading Meta's current business messaging rules before you build your whole order line on one handset.
Restozay runs on the official Meta WhatsApp Business Cloud API, which changes what is possible:
| Capability | Normal WhatsApp app | Official Business Cloud API (Restozay) |
|---|---|---|
| Who replies | Whoever is holding the phone | Any permitted staff member, from one chat dashboard |
| Receipts & updates | Typed by hand, if at all | Sent automatically from the POS |
| OTP verification | Manual, if you improvise it | Built in for customer verification |
| AI order taking | Not available | Available on the Premium plan |
| Cost | Free app, paid for in staff time | Meta per-conversation charges; Restozay adds no per-order fee |
Setup, menu import and staff training are free with Restozay, and most restaurants are live the same day. Connecting an existing number to the official API is a Meta process, so ask our team what it involves for your number before you switch.
How does an order flow from chat to POS, kitchen and rider?
The point of connecting WhatsApp to your POS is that nobody retypes anything. Here is the journey of one order:
- Customer orders in chat. They message you, or open your smart menu link and pick items with variations, flavours and add-ons.
- Order lands on the POS. The confirmed order appears on the same screen as dine-in, takeaway and delivery orders — no separate WhatsApp register.
- Kitchen sees it. The KDS live kitchen screen shows the order, and remote thermal printing sends it to the kitchen printer without needing a shared LAN.
- Delivery fee is calculated up front. Map-drawn zones and named area polygons set distance or area-based charges, shown to the customer before they confirm; out-of-zone addresses are blocked.
- Rider gets the job. The rider mobile app carries the order, you watch the live rider map, and the customer gets a tracking page link on WhatsApp.
- Cash is reconciled. COD reconciliation per rider closes the loop at the end of the shift.
Which receipts, updates and OTPs go out automatically?
Manual updates are where WhatsApp ordering usually collapses — staff forget, customers ring back to ask where the food is, and the counter phone becomes a full-time job. Restozay sends the routine messages itself:
- Receipts on WhatsApp when the bill is made, alongside the printed receipt with your tax block (NTN, STRN, POS ID). Punjab restaurants also get built-in PRA e-IMS fiscal invoicing: completed orders are reported to the Punjab Revenue Authority e-IMS cloud system and the fiscal invoice number and QR print on the receipt automatically. Which businesses are required to fiscalise, and by when, changes over time — check the current PRA notification for your category.
- Order status updates as staff move the order along, from accepted through preparing, ready and out for delivery.
- Live tracking links when the rider leaves, so customers watch the delivery instead of calling to ask about it.
- OTP codes for customer verification, so customer profiles, favourites and one-tap reorder are tied to a real phone number.
Every automatic message is one less interruption for your counter staff during a rush.
What do AI WhatsApp ordering and AI call answering add? (Premium)
On the PKR 20,000/month Premium plan (see pricing), two AI modules take over the repetitive part of order taking:
- AI WhatsApp ordering. The assistant works from your live Restozay menu — current items, variations, flavours, add-ons and prices — rather than a copy someone pasted months ago. It chats with the customer, answers menu questions and takes the order into the POS. Staff follow every conversation in the chat dashboard and can take a chat over whenever they want.
- AI call answering. Plenty of customers still prefer to call. Restozay keeps a staff-first design: your staff phones ring first, exactly as before, and only if nobody picks up does the AI answer, so the call is captured instead of lost.
The practical effect is that a missed ring or a jammed counter during Friday rush does not automatically become a lost order — without hiring someone whose only job is answering WhatsApp.
How much do you save versus aggregator commissions?
Food-delivery aggregators in Pakistan are commonly reported to take roughly 25–35% of order value in commission, though the rate depends on the contract you sign — check the current terms with the platform before you compare. Orders taken on your own WhatsApp number through Restozay carry no commission and no per-order fee: you pay a flat monthly price whatever your volume.
| Monthly delivery sales | Aggregator commission (commonly reported 25–35%) | Restozay WhatsApp orders |
|---|---|---|
| Rs 300,000 | Rs 75,000 – 105,000 | PKR 10,000–20,000 flat |
| Rs 600,000 | Rs 150,000 – 210,000 | Same flat fee |
| Rs 1,000,000 | Rs 250,000 – 350,000 | Same flat fee |
Two honest caveats. Meta bills its own per-conversation charges for the WhatsApp Business API — priced per conversation rather than as a percentage of the order, and worth checking against Meta's current WhatsApp Business rates for Pakistan. And aggregators still bring discovery traffic, so many restaurants keep them for new customers while moving repeat customers onto WhatsApp. We compare the two models in the foodpanda commission alternative guide.
How do you get started?
You do not need new hardware or a technical project. Restozay runs in a browser on any laptop, desktop or Android tablet — no special POS terminal — and setup, menu import and staff training are free. Most restaurants are live the same day, with setup usually under an hour. There is no commission, no per-order fee, no setup fee and no long-term contract.
One thing to be clear about: offline billing mode keeps your counter billing through power and internet cuts and syncs afterwards, but WhatsApp messaging needs a live connection on both sides, so chat ordering is not part of what offline mode covers.
Over 100 restaurants across Pakistan run on Restozay, built by Star Logics in Rahim Yar Khan with support based here in Pakistan. If you want to see your own menu working on WhatsApp before you decide, WhatsApp us at +92 303 3930338 or email [email protected] for a live demo.
